Why Automatic Car Washes Can Be Risky
The brushes in an automatic car wash work on every car that has gone through before you. Dirt from previous vehicles remains on the material and, during the next cycle, is dragged across your paintwork, creating a web of micro-scratches, especially visible on dark colours.
Added to this are the pressure and speed of the operation—the programme doesn't adjust to the level of dirt or the specific condition of your car's paint.
What a Safe Hand Wash Looks Like
A safe hand wash begins with a pre-wash and active foam, which remove the heaviest dirt without any contact with the paintwork. Only then do we use a wash mitt, employing the two-bucket method—one with shampoo, the other for rinsing the mitt.
We dry the car with soft microfibre towels or compressed air, ensuring no water spots or streaks are left on the paint.
What to Choose in Practice
If you plan to keep your car for years and well-maintained paintwork affects its value, a hand wash is simply cheaper than a subsequent paint correction.
